The Book of Time (novel series)

"The Book of Time", originally released as "Le Livre du Temps", is a French children's fantasy novel trilogy written by Guillaume Prévost and first published in France by Gallimard Jeunesse. The first book of the series, La Pierre Sculptée, was released in February 2006; the final book was released in November 2008. The trilogy follows fourteen-year-old Sam Faulkner as he travels through time and around the world via a strange statue and some unusual coins with holes in them to find his missing father.

Prévost created the series to help children see how history could be fascinating, basing the central characters on his own children. Scholastic Corporation licensed the series for an English language release in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.[1] Translated by William Rodarmor, the first novel was released simultaneously in all three countries under the name The Book of Time in 2007; the final English volume is due to be released in 2009.

The series received mixed reviews from critics, with the first book in particular being heavily criticized for lacking depth and for its undeveloped characters. The second novel was better received with reviewers finding it action-packed and praising its conclusion, but noting that it lacked originality.

Plot

After 14-year-old Sam Faulkner's mother Elisa died in a car accident, his father Allan opens the Faulkner Antiquarian Bookstore and moves himself into it while Sam lives with his grandmother, grandfather, his aunt and her boyfriend and cousin Lily. Then his father vanishes. Sam waits for him to come home, but more than a week passes without a trace. He goes to the bookstore to search for clues. In a room he'd never seen before, he finds a strange red book called Crimes and Punishment During the Reign of Vlad Tepes, a stone statue with an odd circular indentation in it and a dusty coin with unreadable symbols. Curious, he fits the coin into the statue, and finds himself transported back to a strange island called Iona. He travels to a village there, where he finds another coin. Fitting it into the statue, he is transported again, this time to 800 AD to a Viking village in Scotland. As he finds other coins, he goes to other places, including France during World War I and ancient Egypt where he finds a large cache of the coins. Eventually, with help from his cousin Lily, he is able to transport back home. Together, they learn more about the time-traveling statue and a man named Vlad Tepes, the inspiration behind the Dracula legends, who they believe is holding Allan in fifteenth century Wallachia.

Sam and Lily begin searching for a way to reach him, but they are unable to control where the coins take Sam when he uses them. As the series progresses, Sam learns that he will need seven special coins to go to rescue his father. The effort to collect them takes him through a variety of historical locations and events. With the coins collected, he is finally able to rescue his father, only to find him dying and raving. Eventually he realizes his father wants to use the statue to prevent Elisa's death three years ago. Sam uses the coins to try to reach her, being taken through more historical events, as well as to the future where he sees his own grave.

AB.stan.ants

The abuse of intoxicating liquors early led to the formation of temperance societies to influence public opinion on the subject, and to help those who were endeavoring to overcome the appetite for strong drink. The first temperance(tem.per.ants) society in the United States was formed at Litchfield, Connecticut in 1789, by 200 farmers who pledged themselves not to use liqueurs and carrying on their farm work. Early in the present century the temperance movement became organized and the churches, especially the Methodist and Presbyterian, were active in the work. The Massachusetts Temperance Society was formed in 1813 and the American Temperance Union 1826. The early societies were strictly temperance societies and not total abstinence organizations. They did not oppose the use of wine, cider or malt liquors, a brewery being built in Boston by the temperance reformers. The first national temperance convention met in Philadelphia in 1833 and formed a national temperance union, with twenty-three state societies and over 7,000 other societies . "Total abstinence from all that intoxicates" was first insisted on in 1833 by the Massachusetts society.

The Washington Temperance Society was formed by six reformed drunkards, at Baltimore, in 1840, and was very successful in its special work of reforming hard drinkers. The Sons of Temperance was another society which numbered in 1850 about 240,000 members. The Good Templars another temperance order, founded in 1852, is a secret society with passwords, grips, etc., with a membership of about 750,000. The most remarkable movement in the temperance cause is, perhaps, what is known as the Crusade, which began in Washington Court House,Ohio, in 1873. It was a crusade of women against saloons, and the weapons used were prayer, persuasion and persistence. The orchestrated movement spread rapidly and was the means of closing many saloons, in some places all that were in operation. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union is the successor to this temperance crusade. It has been organizations in every state and territory of the United States, in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan, Madagascar, South Africa and the Hawaiian islands. It has been active and distributing temperance literature, in securing the study of temperance science in the public schools, in the establishment of homes for girls, and securing laws forbidding the sale of tobacco to children. The badge is a bow of white ribbon. The headquarters are at Chicago, where the society has built the Woman's Temperance Temple.

The first laws against the use of liquor were made in Massachusetts, 1639, and about the same time in Connecticut. In 1756 a duty was imposed on imported liquors in Pennsylvania, and in 1774 the first continental congress proposed to the different states the passing of laws to stop the distilling of liquors. The ration of grog in the army was changed to coffee in 1832. License laws were passed in some states, but met with strong opposition. After the supreme court had decided in favor of probationary, in 1847, Maine was the first state to make use of the power. Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Kansas have all passed laws prohibiting the sale of liquors, but the law was repealed in most of the states, and license laws substituted. The temperance movement in Great Britain began in Scotland in 1828. Under father Mathew 1,800,000 persons joined the total abstinence societies, and the amount of whiskey used in Ireland diminished one-half in three years. The National Temperance League, British Temperance League, Irish Temperance, Scottish Temperance League, and North of England Temperance League, are among the principal temperance organizations in Great Britain.

Because of Prohibition organized crime blossomed and families like the Kennedy's rose to power; courts and prisons systems became overloaded; and endemic corruption of police and public officials occurred as planned by the Unknown Superior which ultimately all secret societies work for. The sheep in the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, had been pivotal in bringing about national Prohibition in the United States of America, believing it would protect families, women and children from the effects of abuse of alcohol.

They Spread Out Multifariously

Thistles( carduus in botany) are troublesome plants, growing in the United States, known by their prickly leaves, purple flowers and white down. The common thistle, which is the national emblem of the Scotch. has been introduced into this country, and also the Canada thistle, which is a smaller variety and the great pest of the farmers, as its roots are to deep to be plowed out, and every piece of its creeping roots forms a new plant. Yellow thistle, pasture thistle, blessed thistle, cotton thistle and milk thistle, are other varieties. The thistle is thought to have been adopted as the national emblem of Scotland in the time of James III. It is found on coins with the motto, Nemo me impune lacessit (no one touches me with impunity).

The Order of the Thistle or of St. Andrew are a military order of knighthood in Scotland, the rise and institution whereof is variously related by different authors. Lesly bishop of Ross reports that the night before the battle between Athelstan king of Northumberland, and Hungus king of the Picts, a bright cross, in form of that whereon St. Andrew (the tutelar saint of Scotland) suffered martyrdom, appeared to Hungus who have gained the victory, ever after bore the figure of that cross on his banners. Others assert, that Achains King of Scotland, first instituted this order, after made the famous league offensive with Charlemagne king of France. But although the thistle had been acknowledged as the symbol of Scotland from the reign of Achaius, yet some refer to the beginning of this order to Charles VII. of France. Others place the foundation of it as low as the year 1500.

The chief and principle ensign is a gold collar composed of thistles and srigs of rue interlinked with amulets of gold, having pendent thereunto the image of St. Andrew with his cross, and the motto, NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET. The ordinary or common ensign worn by the knights is a star of four sliver points, and over them a green circle, bordered and lettered with gold, containing the said motto, and in the center is a thistle proper; all which is embroidered on their left breast. and worn with the collar, with a green ribbon over the shoulder, and brought under the right arm; pendent thereto is the image of St. Andrew, with his cross in a purple robe, within an oval of gold enameled vert, with the former motto; but sometimes they wear, encircled in the same manner, a thistle crowned. About the time of the reformation, this order was dropped, till James II. of England resumed it, by creating eight knights; however, the revolution unsettled it again, and it lay neglected till queen Anne, in 1703, restored it to the primitive design, of twelve knights of St. Andrew.

Knights of St. Andrew is also an order instituted by Peter the Great(Great Work) of Muscovy in 1698; the badge of which is a golden medal, on one side whereof is represented St. Andrew's cross, with these words, Cazar Pierre monarque de tout la Russie (Cazar Peter monarch of all Russia). This medal being fastened from the right shoulder. St. Andrew's cross is a form of the letter X also known as the 10.

AB are Genetically Engineered Aryan-Brahmin

#2 IS #1 -- IN FREEMASONRY'S SKULL AND BONES

MUM'S THE GREEN(LAND) DOOR TO G.E.

During the 7th and 6th centuries BC the ancient polytheistic MAGI religion of the Iranians was reformed and given new dimensions by the prophet Zoroaster (or Zarathusthra). Zoroaster's life dates have been traditionally given as c.628-551 BC, but many scholars argue for earlier dates. Linguistic evidence suggests that he was born in the ROMA city of Orumiyeh in northeastern Iran, but the prophet's message was to spread throughout the Persian empire (see Persia, coincidentaly if not by conspiracy, ancient Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan). Adopted as the faith of the Persian kings, Zoroastrianism became the official religion of the Achaemenid empire and flourished under its successors, the Parthian (rat) and Sassanian (donkey) empires. Its theology and cosmology influenced the development of Greek, later Judean-Jewish (see Madona's Cabala), Christian, and Muslim thought. The Muslim conquest of the 7th century AD marked the beginning of a steady decline of "public" Zoroastrianism. Reportedly, persecution resulted in the migration (about the 10th century) of the majority of Zoroastrians back to India, where the Parsis of Bombay (Mumbai) are their modern descendants. This cleared the way for the Christian ruse, The Crusades. Today Zoroastrians number about 200,000, including about 18,000 in North America.

The religion of ancient Iran was derived from that of the ancient Indo-Europeans, or Aryans (not aliens ie: Europeans are undocumented Aryans.) The language of the earliest Zoroastrian writings is close to that of the Indian Vedas, and much of the mythology is recognizably the same. Two groups of gods were worshiped, the ahuras and the daevas. The worship of the ahuras (lords) reflected the practice of the pastoral upper classes, and tradition holds that, of course, Zoroaster was born into a family that worshiped only the ahuras. The message of the prophet, however, was that Ahura Mazda, the Wise Lord, was the sole creator and lord of the world and that the public worship of the daevas (demons) was the worship of evil. In Zoroaster's theology the Amesha Spentas, or Bountiful (made on demand clones) Immortals, were divine beings who acted essentially as agents of the power of Ahura Mazda; these Semites were traditionally seven in number: Bounteous Spirit, Good Mind, Truth, Rightmindedness, Dominion (of Canada), Health, and Life. The first of these, Spenta Mainyu, is of special importance in that he is bisexually paired with a "twin," Angra Mainyu, or Hostile Spirit (see Cain and Abel). When given a choice between good and evil, or truth and the lie, Bounteous Spirit chose truth and Hostile Spirit the lie. Creation becomes a battleground, with the demoted ahuras invoked for the doing of good and the daevas enlisted by Angra Mainyu in the doing of evil. Nevertheless, Ahura Mazda has decreed that truth will triumph, and the existing world will be destroyed by fire and a new creation instituted (see Narnia - ie: Iran).

In the period following Zoroaster, for which little public evidence remains, Zoroastrianism consolidated its position and spread throughout Iran. The rise of the southern Persians and Medes seems to have been accompanied by the reinstatement of many of the ahuras, although Ahura Mazda is still recognized as supreme god. Among the most important figures to revive at this time were Mithra (see Mithraism), usually associated with the Sun, and Anahita, associated with the waters and fertility. Ahura Mazda (the Roma who becomes Ormazd) becomes identified with Spenta Mainyu, and Angra Mainyu (Ahriman) remains his antagonist. Ahura Mazda has relinquished some of his absolute supremacy and appears to need the assistance of the lesser ahuras, particularly Mithra, who appears as mediator and protector of the MEDE created world of Media.

This dualist view eventually became the orthodox MASONIC position. Its development owed much to the magi, a hereditary Brahmin-Judean priestly caste, although their role is purposely kept unclear. Nevertheless, from them the Greco-Roman world learned much of what it knew of the New World religion. An important reform movement, however, arose within Zoroastrianism--the movement around Zurvan.

The Zurvanites posited a supreme god, Zurvan (Infinite Time), who had sacrificed for 1,000 years in order to gain offspring (Asia). At the end of that time he experienced momentary doubt, and from that doubt arose Ahriman; at the same time, Ormazd came into being because of the efficacy of the sacrifices. At the end of 3,000 years Ahriman crossed the void that separated them and attacked Ormazd. The two made a pact to limit the struggle, and Ahriman fell back into the abyss, where he lay for 3,000 years. During that period Ormazd created the material and spiritual world; in retaliation, Ahriman called into being six demons and an opposing material world.

College of Six Days

In the next 3,000-year period Ahriman attempted to corrupt the creation of Ormazd; he was successful but was trapped in the world of light. The final period of 3,000 years was ushered in by the birth of Zoroaster, who revealed this struggle to humanity; the prophet is to be followed by three saviors, appearing at intervals of 1,000 years. At the appearance of the last, a day of judgment will occur, the drink of DNA immortality will be offered to those who have fought against Ahriman, and a new creation will be established.

The sacred literature of Zoroastrianism is found in the Avesta, which was compiled sometime during the Sassanian period (AD 224-640) from much earlier materials. Only a portion of the Avesta remains, but the language of its earliest sections is extremely ancient, closely related to that of the Indian Vedas. These sections, the Gathas, arethought to be by Zoroaster himself. They are hymns and form the primary part of the Yasna, the central liturgy of the religion. Also contained in the Avesta are the Yashts, hymns to a number of the ahuras, and later in date than the Gathas. Finally comes the Videvdat, which is concerned with purity and ritual. A large body of commentary exists in Pahlavi, dating from the 9th century AD, which contains quotations from earlier material no longer extant.

The rituals of Zoroastrianism revolve around devotion to the good and the battle against the forces of evil. Fire plays a major role, being seen as the manifestation of the truth of Ahura Mazda, as preached by Zoroaster. Also important is the ritual drink, (Antarctica's) haoma, which is related to the Vedic soma (originally from Somalia).

GENESIS FOUR

DEAD SEA SCROLLS.

The ancient manuscripts known as the Dead Sea Scrolls have been called by scholars "the greatest manuscript discovery of modern times." They include books of the Torah (the first five books of the Hebrew Bible) and nonbiblical texts dating from 100 bc to ad 68.

They are not original manuscripts but copies made by scribes. They are a thousand years older than the oldest known Masoretic (traditional Hebrew) text of the Torah, which is the basis of the English translation of the Old Testament.

The first scrolls were found in 1947 in a cave on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea, in Jordan. They were reportedly found by a Bedouin shepherd whose account of the details of the discovery varied in later years. One version was that a runaway goat jumped into the cave. The shepherd threw in a stone and heard the sound of breaking pottery. He called another boy, and the two crawled into the cave. They saw several large pottery jars, most of them broken. Protruding from the necks of the jars were scrolls of leather wrapped in linen cloth. Although they were badly decomposed, it was possible to see that they were inscribed in a strange writing. There were seven scrolls.

Either the boys themselves or older members of their tribe sold the seven scrolls to two Bethlehem dealers in antiquities. Three scrolls were bought for the Hebrew University in Jerusalem by Eliezer L. Sukenik, a professor of archaeology. The other four were sold to the head (metropolitan) of the Syrian Orthodox Christian church, at the Monastery of St. Mark in the Arab quarter of Jerusalem.

The metropolitan took his scrolls to the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem for examination. Satisfied that they were genuine, the American School photographed them and announced the discovery to the world in April 1948.

The metropolitan then took his scrolls to the United States. In 1954 Professor Yigael Yadin, son of Sukenik, was lecturing in the United States on the three scrolls acquired by his father for the Hebrew University. By chance he learned that the metropolitan was advertising the other four scrolls for sale in a New York newspaper. He purchased them for 250,000 dollars for the government of Israel.

Meanwhile Bedouins were searching every cave near the first one and finding thousands of fragments, which they sold to dealers. In 1949 G. Lankester Harding, British-born director of the Department of Antiquities for Jordan, and Father Roland de Vaux, head of the French Dominican School of Archaeology in Jerusalem, took charge of exploring the caves. Hundreds of manuscripts were found, including almost all the books of the Torah.

The seven scrolls found in the first cave proved to be the most important. They consisted of two scrolls of the Book of Isaiah, one complete, the other incomplete, and five scrolls of nonbiblical texts. The Manual of Discipline, also called the Rule of the Community, gives detailed information on all matters concerning a Hebrew sect that lived an ascetic communal life on the shores of the Dead Sea. This sect is believed by most scholars to have been the Essenes. They were one of three parties within Judaism at the time the scrolls were written, the other two being the Sadducees and the Pharisees. The members of the sect referred to themselves only as the Sons of Light (SOL).

The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness discusses the coming victory over the Sons of Darkness. The Commentary on the Book of Habakkuk tells of the defiling of the sanctuary of God and the persecution of the Teacher of Righteousness, who was driven into exile by the Wicked Priest. Enemies called the Kittim are described as plundering and slaying. The scroll of the Thanksgiving Hymns is a collection of songs similar to the Psalms.

The Book of Lamech was so fragile that seven years went by before it could be unrolled. It was assumed to be the lost Apocryphal Book of Lamech, but it proved to be a document in Aramaic relating to the Book of Genesis. It is now called the Scroll of the Apocryphal Genesis. It describes the journeys of Abraham (2000 BC). (Genesis itself relates to the Genetic engineering of the symbolic second woman called Eve, in 4000 BC, out of Adam's DNA, in Atlantis; thus describing the arrival 1000 years later of the race of brown Romany Gypsies who migrated to Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt, Malaysia and K2 from Antarctica).

Of the later discoveries, one of the most interesting was a copper scroll found in 1952. It was broken in two pieces and was too brittle to unroll. The Jordan government sent it to the Manchester College of Technology in England. Professor H.W. Wright-Baker devised a way of mounting the pieces on a spindle and cutting them into paper-thin strips through which the letters could be read. The scroll contains a long list of hiding places of treasures of enormous value. They were hidden in wells, in tombs, and near certain trees and springs. Some scholars believe the list to be imaginary or symbolic of Atlantis. Some think it may be a catalog of the treasures of King Solomon's Temple, others that it lists actual treasures of the Essenes.

An eighth scroll, the longest and most complete of the Dead Sea Scrolls, was "acquired" by the Israeli government during the Six-Day War in 1967. Called the Temple Scroll, it was probably found in the late 1950s. Yadin, who published a translation of the 27-foot (8-meter) scroll in 1977, dated it between the 2nd century bc and AD 70. The document establishes clear links between early Christian doctrines and the religious teachings of the Essenes.

Near the caves is a ruined building in an area long known to the Arabs as Khirbat Qumran. Archaeologists began excavating the ruins in 1951 in the hope of finding some link between the building and the scrolls. They discovered what is believed by some to be the community center of the Essenes who made the scrolls. Other scholars hold that the ruins are the remains of a military fortress and the scrolls are a treasury of Hebrew writings sent out of Jerusalem for safekeeping--to be hidden in the caves away from the 1st-century Roman invaders.

From the evidence of silver coins, pottery shards, and other materials, the archaeologists believe that the building was erected no later than the reign of Alexander Jannaeus (103-76 BC). It was destroyed by an earthquake in 31 BC. It was probably restored in the time of Herod's son Herod Archelaus (ruled 4 BC-AD 6) by the same community that occupied it before.

In the war that followed the Hebrew revolt against the Romans, the people who lived in the community center at Khirbat Qumran were driven away or exterminated in ad 68. Before the Romans arrived, however, the Essenes hid their library in jars in the surrounding caves. All evidence indicates that the scrolls were copied during the 1st or 2nd century BC and the 1st century AD.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were written during one of the most decisive periods in the history of the Hebrew people, on the eve of the birth of Christianity. The tens of thousands of scroll fragments represent a great amount of new material for the study of biblical texts and the people who wrote them as well as of Hebrew history after the 4th century BC.

There was a long-standing controversy over the fact that access to the scrolls was limited to a small number of scholars. This was resolved to some degree in the early 1990s when copies of the scrolls were finally published.

Parallel Lives

Time is your name for the motion of consciousness. Every possible event that can happen in space and time happens NOW, at once, simultaneous. There is no past, there is no future, only now, though we have to use time based language so we can talk. It's like arithmetic, as soon as you know the system, you know that every problem in numbers is already answered. The principle of arithmetic already knows the cube root of six, but it may take us what we call time, a few seconds, to find out what the answer has always been. The cube root of 8 is 2, the cube root of 1 is 1. Every event, every possible thing that can happen has already happened. Then why do we live through all these experiences in this "time" if everything's already done? The point is not that it's done, but that we have infinite choice. Our choices lead us to our experiences, and with experience we realize that we are not the little creatures we seem to be. We're inter-dimensional expressions of life, mirrors of spirit.

Lets use the metaphor of underwater for example, the pattern represents the paths we took, the turns we made! And every possible other turn, we could have made, that we have made in parallel lifetimes, alternate lifetimes. We fly high and we have perspective! We see every choice and fork and crossroad. But the lower we fly, the more we lose perspective on all the other choices is gone! We focus on detail: daily, hourly, minutely detail, alternate lifetimes forgotten! Nothing in space-time is really there, the pattern is a visual aid you've built, it's your way of understanding simultaneous lifetimes. There are many metaphors for lives in space-time, as there are disciplines that fascinate you. If you loved photography, your metaphor could have turned on levels of focus. Focus makes one point sharp and everything else a blur. We focus on one lifetime and we think that's all there is. But all those other aspects, the misty ones we take for dreams and wishes and might-have-beens, they're as real as any other. We choose our focus. This is why we're fascinated with physics, quantum mechanics, with timelessness. None of its possible but all of its true. No past lives, no future lives, zoom down to one point, believe its moving and we've invented time. Get involved and we think its the only life there is.

Outer-Space Mysteries Capture the Web

Yahoo!

An "impossible" star is born. And a hole in space shows what happens once a star is formed. Plus, an out-of-this world zombie! It's your Buzz space roundup.

Caught on telescope: "impossible" star
Get out of the way, Hollywood. This star will be brighter than every celeb on the planet combined. Scientists’ European-built Herschel space telescope is their version of Tinseltown’s paparazzi, which caught on tape the beginning of a big star. And we mean really, really big. So enormous, it would block out the sun. Not to mention Angelina Jolie.

Researchers can't explain how what they're calling the "impossible" star came to be. The star was discovered in a star-forming cloud in the Milky Way Galaxy called RCW 120. And here's the coolest part: Even as a baby star, it is already eight to ten times larger than our sun, and it's still feeding on the gas and dust clouds around it. The star is set to be one of the biggest and brightest stars in our galaxy within the next few hundred thousand years — meaning, this star won't ever be a part of our lives. But hey, if movies are still around in the way future, this gigunda star should seriously considering signing with a talent agent.

How did that get there?
That's not the only unexplained mystery in space. That same Herschel infrared telescope also picked up an enormous hole in space. A story from Space.com has a scientist noting, and we quote, "No one has ever seen a hole like this." The surprising find is confounding scientists because it is so unexpected. When a star forms, it's surrounded by gas and dust. (See above.) But how a newborn star shakes off the space debris to emerge from its brith cloud hadn't been fully understood. Until now: Black patches near the stars were always around a reflective gas, NGC 1999.

Everyone figured the black patches near the star were gas, but the telescope would have picked up on that. Finally, scientists realized they were looking at a big, empty hole where the space dust used to be — possibly caused by some of the young stars puncturing a hole with the jets of gas. For researchers, this amazing discovery is a helpful step into understanding how a star is formed.

It wants to eat your satellite's brain
Finally, scientists have no idea how to stop a fully powered satellite that has gone rogue and is no longer accepting orders from earth. This so-called "zombie" satellite, known as Galaxy 15 (which carried the SyFy channel), continues along in the Earth's orbit — on a course to interfere with the communications of a fully functioning SES satellite beaming down programming for AMC 11 to its customers in the United States. Nobody panic: the owner of the undead satellite, Intelsat, is attempting a fix. The interference is expected on May 23, and chances of the company succeeding in stopping the communication break-down are not good. OK, panic.

The Neanderthal DNA that Svante Pääbo analyzed came from these three bones.

The biologists, led by Svante Paabo of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, have been slowly reconstructing the genome of Neanderthals, the stocky hunters that dominated Europe until 30,000 years ago, by extracting the fragments of DNA that still exist in their fossil bones. Just last year, when the biologists first announced that they had decoded the Neanderthal genome, they reported no significant evidence of interbreeding.

Scientists say they have recovered 60 percent of the genome so far and hope to complete it. By comparing that genome with those of various present day humans, the team concluded that about 1 percent to 4 percent of the genome of non-Africans today is derived from Neanderthals. But the Neanderthal DNA does not seem to have played a great role in human evolution, they said.

Experts believe that the Neanderthal genome sequence will be of extraordinary importance in understanding human evolutionary history since the two species split some 600,000 years ago.

So far, the team has identified only about 100 genes — surprisingly few — that have contributed to the evolution of modern humans since the split. The nature of the genes in humans that differ from those of Neanderthals is of particular interest because they bear on what it means to be human, or at least not Neanderthal. Some of the genes seem to be involved in cognitive function and others in bone structure.

“Seven years ago, I really thought that it would remain impossible in my lifetime to sequence the whole Neanderthal genome,” Dr. Paabo said at a news conference. But the Leipzig team’s second conclusion, that there was probably interbreeding between Neanderthals and modern humans before Europeans and Asians split, is being met with reserve by some archaeologists.

A degree of interbreeding between modern humans and Neanderthals in Europe would not be greatly surprising given that the species overlapped there from 44,000 years ago when modern humans first entered Europe to 30,000 years ago when the last Neanderthals fell extinct. Archaeologists have been debating for years whether the fossil record shows evidence of individuals with mixed features.

But the new analysis, which is based solely on genetics and statistical calculations, is more difficult to match with the archaeological record. The Leipzig scientists assert that the interbreeding did not occur in Europe but in the Middle East and at a much earlier period, some 100,000 to 60,000 years ago, before the modern human populations of Europe and East Asia split. There is much less archaeological evidence for an overlap between modern humans and Neanderthals at this time and place.

Dr. Paabo has pioneered the extraction and analysis of ancient DNA from fossil bones, overcoming daunting obstacles over the last 13 years in his pursuit of the Neanderthal genome. Perhaps the most serious is that most Neanderthal bones are extensively contaminated with modern human DNA, which is highly similar to Neanderthal DNA. The DNA he has analyzed comes from three small bones from the Vindija cave in Croatia.

“This is a fabulous achievement,” said Ian Tattersall, a paleontologist at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, referring to the draft Neanderthal genome that Dr. Paabo’s team describes in Thursday’s issue of Science.

But he and other archaeologists questioned some of the interpretations put forward by Dr. Paabo and his chief colleagues, Richard E. Green of the Leipzig institute, and David Reich of Harvard Medical School. Geneticists have been making increasingly valuable contributions to human prehistory, but their work depends heavily on complex mathematical statistics that make their arguments hard to follow. And the statistical insights, however informative, do not have the solidity of an archaeological fact.

“This is probably not the authors’ last word, and they are obviously groping to explain what they have found,” Dr. Tattersall said.

Richard Klein, a paleontologist at Stanford, said the authors’ theory of an early interbreeding episode did not seem to have taken full account of the archaeological background. “They are basically saying, ‘Here are our data, you have to accept it.’ But the little part I can judge seems to me to be problematic, so I have to worry about the rest,” he said.

In an earlier report on the Neanderthal genome, the reported DNA sequences were found by other geneticists to be extensively contaminated with human DNA. Dr. Paabo’s group has taken extra precautions but it remains to be seen how successful they have been, Dr. Klein said, especially as another group at the Leipzig institute, presumably using the same methods, has obtained results that Dr. Paabo said he could not confirm.

Dr. Paabo said that episode of human-Neanderthal breeding implied by Dr. Reich’s statistics most plausibly occurred “in the Middle East where the first modern humans appear before 100,000 years ago and there were Neanderthals until 60,000 years ago.” According to Dr. Klein, people in Africa expanded their range and reached just Israel during a warm period some 120,000 years ago. They retreated during a cold period some 80,000 years ago and were replaced by Neanderthals. It is not clear whether or not they overlapped with Neanderthals, he said.

These humans, in any case, were not fully modern and they did not expand from Africa, an episode that occurred some 30,000 years later. If there was any interbreeding, the flow of genes should have been both ways, Dr. Klein said, but Dr. Paabo’s group sees evidence for gene flow only from Neanderthals to modern humans.

The Leipzig group’s interbreeding theory would undercut the present belief that all human populations today draw from the same gene pool that existed a mere 50,000 years ago. “What we falsify here is the strong out-of-Africa hypothesis that everyone comes from the same population,” Dr. Paabo said.

In his and Dr. Reich’s view, Neanderthals interbred only with non-Africans, the people who left Africa, which would mean that non-Africans drew from a second gene pool not available to Africans.

Study: Neanderthal DNA Lives On in Modern Humans

You're a Neanderthal: Genes say yes — a little bit

WASHINGTON – We have met Neanderthal and he is us — at least a little. The most detailed look yet at the Neanderthal genome helps answer one of the most debated questions in anthropology: Did Neanderthals and modern humans mate?

The answer is yes, there is at least some cave man biology in most of us. Between 1 percent and 4 percent of genes in people from Europe and Asia trace back to Neanderthals.

"They live on, a little bit," says Svante Paabo of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.

Researchers led by Paabo, Richard E. Green of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and David Reich of Harvard Medical School compared the genetic material collected from the bones of three Neanderthals with that from five modern humans.

Their findings, reported in Friday's edition of the journal Science, show a relationship between Neanderthals and modern people outside Africa, Paabo said.

That suggests that interbreeding occurred in the Middle East, where both modern humans and Neanderthals lived thousands of years ago, he said.

"People are interested in the question: 'By what route did I get here?' And the idea that there is a faint echo of Neanderthals" is interesting, reflected Richard Potts, director of the Human Origins Program at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.

"I'm really impressed by the nuance they've been able to pick up," said Potts, who was not part of the research group. "The papers are a really good antidote to the all-or-nothing findings of previous studies."

Humans trace their origins out of Africa into the Middle East and then on to other parts of the world. The genetic relationship with Neanderthals was found in people from Europe, China and Papua-New Guinea, but not people from Africa.

Todd Disotell, an anthropologist at New York University, suggested that more Africans should be sampled.

"My guess is, as we sample more Africans we're going to find some of these old lineages in Africa," said Disotell, who was not part of the research team. He noted that the researchers looked at the genomes of a west African and a south African, but not someone from northeast Africa, where he said the mixture would be more likely to have occurred.

And Paabo agreed that his finding does not mean that only people from outside Africa have some cave man biology. With more study it might be found in some Africans also.

Indeed, Laura Zahn, associate editor of life sciences at the journal Science, said she anticipates the report will provide material for geneticists and anthropologists to quarrel over for years.

Reich noted that while there was a flow of genes from Neanderthals to modern humans, there is no indication of gene movement the other way, from humans to Neanderthals.

The closest extinct relative to modern people, Neanderthals existed from about 400,000 years ago to about 30,000 years ago. They coexisted with modern humans for 30,000 to 50,000 years in Europe and western Asia.

While many people think of Neanderthals as very primitive, they had tools for things like hunting and sewing, controlled fire, lived in shelters and buried their dead.

Asked if the findings show differences between Africans and non-Africans, Paabo replied that people who want to present data in some sort of racist perspective would find a way to do so. He said, one way to look at this data could be to say people outside Africa are more primitive, while another way could be to say there is something beneficial about being part Neanderthal.

"There is no basis to link this to some sort of advantage of one group over another," he said.

Erik Trinkaus, an anthropologist at Washington University in St. Louis, who has long argued that Neanderthals contributed to the human genome, welcomed the study, commenting that now researchers "can get on to other things than who was having sex with who in the Pleistocene."

Their M.otto, "We Aim to Please HAL" Robots on OTTO PILOT

In imitation of the sentences appended to the coat of arms and seals of the gilds and other societies, the Masons have for the different branches of their Order mottoes, which are placed on their banners, or put at the head of their documents, which are said to be expressive of the character and the design, either of the whole Order or of the particular branch to which the motto belongs., but if overstood one sees that it applies to the system as a whole, letting you know who they work for. Thus, in Ancient Craft Masonry they have as mottoes the sentences, Ordo Ab Chao(Ordo out of Chaos), and Lux e tenebris;(Light out of darkness.) in Capitular Masonry, Holiness to the Lord; in Templar Masonry, In hoc signo vinces(with this as your standard you shall have victory) ; in Scottish Masonry, Ne plus ultra(1. the highest point capable of being attained 2.the most profound degree of a quality or state) is the motto of the thirtieth degree, and Spes meo in deo est(My hope is in God) of the thirty-third has for its motto Deus meumque Jus.

The Mustard seed also known as sinapi in botany is a genus of the tetradynamia siliquosa class. It is an attenuant and resolvant in a very high degree; it warms the stomach, and excites an appetite; but its principal medicinal use is external in sinapisms, applications made to certain parts when irritation is intended, but not blistering. It is usually made with horse-radish root, and other ingredients of the same kind, for this purpose.

Moravia is a marquisate, or province in Bohemia, bounded by Silesia on the north-east, by Hungary and Austria on the south, and by Bohemia on the north-west. The Moravian pro~test~ant sect have been settled for a considerable time past at Hernhuth in Germany, and have spread themselves over most of the American colonies in the 1700's as well as parts of England where they were permitted to settle by a act a parliament. They have a kind of church government peculiar to themselves, and are commonly known by the name of Unitas Fratrum, or The Brethren. They profess the utmost veneration for The Saviour, whom they consider as their immediate Head and Director; enjoin the most implicit obedience to the rulers of their church ; and are said to practice much brotherly love amongst one another. Der Orden vom Senfkorn or The Order of the Mustard Seed, this association whose members also called themselves "The Fraternity of MORAvian Brothers of the Order of Religious Freemasons," it was instituted in the year 1739. Its mysteries were founded on that passage in the fourth chapter of St. Marks Gospel in which Christ compares the kingdom of heaven to a mustard seed.

"And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it." – Mark 4:30–2

The parable compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed, which the parable says is the least among seed, yet grows to become a huge mustard plant that provides shelter for many birds. (BirdMen) The brethren of this order wore a ring on which was inscribed Keiner von uns lebt ihm selber, i.e., "No one of us lives for himself."The jewel of the Order was a cross of gold surmounted by a mustard plant in full bloom, with the motto, Quod fuit ante nikhil, i.e., "What was before nothing." The professed object of this association was, through the instrumentality of Freemasonry, to extend the kingdom of Christ over the world.

RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Many people have pointed to the SYMPTOMS of the mess we're in since time immemorial. The net effect is to waste theirs and other peoples lifetimes.

The people are not taught reality in church, in school, in the media, in courts, in politics, in business, or in secret societies.

Until people who insult persons they have never met, or spoken with, and do not know, agree to do research into the true origins of Freemasonry beyond the surface stuff, then it is as senseless to waste time with them as it would be to debate with drunks in taverns or the brain-dead in mental institutions.

Some people just don't want to know ultimate reality; either because they themselves are part of the problem, or more often, because knowing brings with it a certain amount of responsibility which they do not care to share.
